This study aimed to investigate the structural relationship between playfulness, play teaching efficacy, and play support competency of pre-service early childhood teachers. In this study, one hundred twelve pre-service early childhood teachers in the early childhood education department of a three- and four-year university located in D city were selected as the research subjects. The collected data were subjected to descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and structural equation analysis, and the mediating effect was verified by the bootstrap methods using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0. As a result of this study, pre-service early childhood teachers' playfulness and play teaching efficacy had significant correlations with play support competency. Second, pre-service early childhood teachers' playfulness and play teaching efficacy showed significant direct effects on play support competency. Third, pre-service early childhood teachers' play teaching efficacy had a significant mediating effect on the structural relationships between playfulness and play support competency. These results suggest that preparing professional educational knowledge and beliefs about young children's play during pre-service early childhood teachers' university years is essential. Furthermore, it is necessary to help develop their play support competency continuously and systematically to their university. In addition, this study is expected to contribute to the preparation of action plans for play emphasized in the 2019 revised Nuri curriculum.
