Currently, the Petersburg theater world is at the crossroads of huge change. The retirement of the great directors, who have continued the tradition of Petersburg drama and theater for decades, is just around the corner. Additionally, since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, a large number of senior directors who have led major theaters in St. Petersburg have either left the theaters or started new ventures, some even seeking exile. This study is one of the works to draw the topographic map of the St. Petersburg Drama Theater, and attempts to analyze the changes in major theaters one by one in the new century. This study aims to analyze the changes in major theaters as they embrace the new century, starting with the renowned Maly Drama Theater. Under the outstanding artistic director Lev Dodin, Maly Drama Theater has maintained its tradition for decade, has also grown into a world-class theater representing St.Petersburg. This study looked at the three ways that Maly Drama Theater inherits their own tradition. This study specifically focused on the generational change of actors, new interpretations of classics, the discovery of next-generation directors, and changes in theater infrastructure. There have been studies on the works and significance of the Maly Drama Theater, but this study is meaningful in that it is the first paper dealing with its new changes.
