The Eight Scenic Views of Pyongyang - Eulmildae(乙密臺), Bubyeokru (浮碧樓), Yeongmyeongsa(永明寺), Botongmun(普通門), Geomun(車門), eryeondang(愛蓮堂), Yongsan(龍山) and Matan(馬灘) - formed a unique cultural landscape by interacting with historical events and human activities and were reproduced through various classical literature. This study examined the perception of the cultural landscape of Pyongyang Eight Views in classical literature of the Joseon Dynasty. The results are as follows.
First, it is a cultural landscape that recreates the history of Goguryeo and recalls the King Dongmyeong. Second, it is an architectural landscape that contains memories of war and establishes the boundary of separation. Third, it is a cultural landscape that reflects the cultural characteristics of the time, such as banquets, boating, listening to the rain, and recreation and desire for rest. Fourth, it is a symbolic cultural landscape that is the source of inspiration for writers. Even in modern North Korea, the Eight Scenic Views of Pyongyang forms an axis of regional identity as a cultural landscape representing Pyongyang.
