This study summarizes the development and one operation case of the liberal arts course Hanbok, Meets Modernity at Hannam University. Currently, university-based hanbok education is conducted in departments related to clothing and fashion. However, these courses are mostly established as 'major elective' subjects, resulting in issues such as course cancellations due to insufficient enrollment or biennial offerings, making it difficult for interested students to receive adequate education. Liberal arts courses, however, have two distinct ad- vantages, being less burdensome to establish and allowing for various attempts. Hanbok, Meets Modernity is a convergence liberal arts course that examines hanbok along with architecture, cities, and food, and is designed using the 'ADDIE Model'-educational framework. In our analysis of the 2022/23 course, we found that it focused on modern hanbok and examined the changes in traditional hanbok according to social changes and lifestyles. It combined theoretical lectures with various experiential programs to engage students' interest. Course evaluation was conducted through both the university's official course evaluation and self-assessment, with the latter showing high ratings for systematic course structure and efforts to improve understanding. Positive outcomes of the course operation included an increase in enrollment and an influx of students from various departments. Additionally, utilizing campus infrastructure and exploring local modern facilities promoted interest from both the university and the local community. Suggested future improvements include adjustments in course content and difficulty, coordinating project implementation timing, providing sufficient evaluation and differentiated support, securing long-term implementation periods, and improved budget allocation. This case presents a new direction for hanbok education and can serve as a useful reference for future developments.
