For Korean college students, Taekwondo is a highly meaningful subject that to learn about health through sports as part of their liberal arts education. At the same time, it serves as a driving force that helps them develop into mature members of society. Therefore it is valuable to study the impact of Taekwondo as a liberal arts subject on the effort of grit in college students. The purpose of this study was to analyze how perceived subjective health status and self-efficacy among college students who participated in Taekwondo classes influenced the effort of grit. To achieve the purpose, a questionnaire was administered to 258 college students enrolled in Taekwondo liberal arts classes, and the results were analyzed using a structural equation model. The findings of this study are as follows; first, The perceived subjective health status of students who took Taekwondo as a liberal arts subject has a statistically significant positive effect on their overall self-efficacy. Second, the overall self-efficacy perceived by these students has a statistically significant positive effect on the effort of grit. Third, the perceived subjective health status of students enrolled in Taekwondo classes also has a statistically significant positive effect on the effort of grit. Finally, the mediating effect of general self-efficacy was found to be statistically significant in the relationship between perceived subjective health status and the effort of grit among students who took Taekwondo classes. The results of this study are expected to serve as important foundational data for developing policies to enhance liberal arts physical education programs in universities in Korea.
