Through folk research conducted in Gangneung, the research team found that Dopo represents Gangneung. This study aims to analyze the morphological features and cultural characteristics of Dopo in Gangneung-si. The research combined an oral survey of Gangneung residents with a field survey of their Dopo. This study found that Jeonsam, a characteristic feature of Gangneung-Dopo, comprises three pieces. Additionally, there are cases where Hanpan is attached to these three pieces, although Hanpan has not been seen since the 1990s. In the case of Hanpan, it was divided into two types depending on the width and fixing method. The form without the Hanpan is simplified, comprising one from the shoulder line to the bottom. In this case, it was divided into two types: one with an Eokkaebadae and one without a Eokkaebadae. All the relics investigated were single-layer clothes made of hemp and had no Dongjeong. In particular, unlike what was suggested in previous studies, it was found that the distinction between legitimate children and bastards based on Dongjeong is subject to variable interpretation. This study confirmed various aspects of the cultural characteristics, such as the fact that the son-in-law wore the Dopo that his mother-in-law first gave him for his wedding and used it as a Bokui and shroud for the rest of his life and that, contrary to the opinion of previous studies that it was not received even if divorced, he returned it.
