There is a certain pattern of Gazing from a Heights Poems in Tang Dynasty. It is the structure of being sad or shedding tears after climbing high and looking far away. This paper analyzed the process from contour to sadness, focusing on the structure of emotional cause.
Climbing a high place is for the purpose of seeing something. However, the poets said they did not see it after climbing the mountain and seeing an open view, so they shed tears. In this process, the movement of gaze and emotional change after looking far away were identified. The gaze, whose gaze extends to the outside pole to the end of the sky, soon changes direction toward the poet’s inner side. In other words, what poet see after seeing the outside landscape is poet’s inner self. Poet realize that it was not the scenery that poet’s saw from a high place, but the inside. In this sense, as Heidegger’s expression, Gazing from a Heights Poems can be said to be a poem that confirms the essence of the ego through the non-routineity of contouring.
