This study employs in-depth interviews and questionnaires with five experts operate Taekwondo classes in Gyeonggi-do Province, specializing in education for migrants. The research findings are as follows:
Firstly, the ‘physical value’ is one of its intrinsic values of Taekwondo for trainees with migration background. This value promotes the establishment of ideal role models and assists them in becoming contributing members of their community. It enhances physical strength and flexibility, boosts self-confidence, and alleviates stress. And it plays a crucial role in improving the overall quality of their lives.
Secondly, the ‘spiritual value’ is one of intrinsic values in Taekwondo for the trainees with migration background. Taekwondo training positively influences them in several ways, including building mental toughness, enhancing social adaptability, boosting confidence, relieving stress, and increasing concentration. And this value is crucial in planning their career paths and adapting to Korean society.
Thirdly, the ‘social value’ is another intrinsic values of Taekwondo for trainees with migration background. Understanding and practicing social value through Taekwondo training is pivotal in shaping socially responsible citizens. The norms and rules learned in Taekwondo positively influence society as trainees apply them in their daily lives. Thus, the social value is essential for trainees with migration background to become ethical and responsible members of society.
Fourthly, the ‘educational value’ is another intrinsic values of Taekwondo for trainees with migration background. Taekwondo promotes autonomy and self-directed learning through continuous and repetitive training. It also helps trainees learn proprieties and norms based on academic growth, fostering an understanding and respect for Korean culture. It does not only promote academic development but also encourage positive socialization and holistic growth.
