In order to meet the needs of the Chinese Communist Revolution and adapt to changes in the global geopolitical landscape, the Chinese government exhibited not only affinity towards the Soviet Union in its diplomatic policies and developmental models but also in the realm of culture. Against this backdrop, a genre of revolutionary songs that emerged during the Soviet era (1912-1991) was introduced to China. These “Russian-Soviet song” served to coalesce the populace and actively contributed to the reshaping of Chinese musical culture. Initially disseminated primarily among Chinese revolutionaries and intellectuals, these songs gradually gained influence among the masses due to their incorporation into national-level cultural exchanges and music education. This article examines the unique development of Russian-Soviet song in China, analyzes how they spread in different historical periods and how they have influenced Chinese vocal music.
