This study analyzed and compared the regional sports index developed to analyze and diagnose the level of sports conditions between regions, and presented a stable production plan and policy utilization plan of the regional sports index based on the regional sports index derived from this study. As a result, six cities (Gwangju, Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Daejeon, Daegu) and four provinces (Jeju, Jeonbuk, Gangwon, and Jeonnam) were evenly distributed among the top 10 metropolitan governments, proving their suitability for calculating the regional sports index. According to the results of this study, the regional sports index enables the diagnosis of insufficient fields and levels compared to other regions by objectively diagnosing the level of sports development of metropolitan governments, and can be used as a basis for setting sports policy goals. In addition, it can be used to establish policy directions and derive strategies for regional sports development by diagnosing sector performance based on regular index calculation results.
