The purpose of this study was to examine the implications of neoliberalism on educational practice in physical education and school sport, based on investigating historical context, features, and educational impacts of neoliberalism. The notion of neoliberalism is complex centered on the concept of ‘economics’, ‘effectiveness’, and ‘excellence’, which have had a significant effect on economy, politics culture, and education in Korea. We identified the relationship between key elements of neo-liberalism and current changes physical education and school sport: ‘consumer centered education’, ‘health and outsourcing’, ‘moral and citizenship’, and ‘excellence and equality’. Moreover, on the one hand, physical education and school sport reflected the main features of neo-liberalism, on the other hand, it was seen as a powerful tool to overcome problems in neoliberal society. We suggest that educators and researcher need to explore in further depth the processes of how to maximize the possibilities of realizing quality physical education and school sport in order for young people to learn moral behaviors, fostering health improvement and facilitating lifelong participation in physical activities, which can be the foundation of educational practice in schools.
