Blockchain technology has received widespread attention in recent years as it is believed to improve the competitive advantage of enterprises. However, the existing researches focus more on technology or theoretical empirical analysis, and concentrates more on manufacturing research. In order to bridge this gap, this paper provides an in-depth study through a multi-case comparative analysis from the level of maritime logistics. Specifically, this study focuses on logistics companies including Maersk, Walmart, CJ Logistics, and dKargo, employing the VRIO framework to explore their strategies for gaining a competitive edge through technology and innovation, while also assessing the impact of blockchain technology on the logistics industry. Additionally, the report reveals potential challenges that companies may face when considering platform discontinuation, including revenue generation and the sustaining of viable business models. The findings indicate that blockchain technology can enhance operational efficiency, reduce transaction costs, and provide advantages in reliability, transparency, and security, thereby offering significant development prospects for logistics companies. Furthermore, blockchain technology can promote collaboration and strengthen distribution network management by enhancing information reliability and transparency. This study provides strategic insights for businesses and emphasizes the role of blockchain technology in achieving sustainable competitive advantages.
