This study aims to present an insightful perspective on how the concept of trauma, which representing fear among various human inner psychologies, can be expressed through visual art. Through this, we aim to present the methodology for interpreting artworks dealing with war trauma. The subject of the study is a work of art related to war trauma that depicts before and after World War II and the tragedy of the Holocaust. To present a framework for interpreting the work, we fused trauma-related theories of Karl Jung, Dominic Lacapra, and Marianne Hirsch. The main results of this study can be summarized into the following three categories. 1) When the results of anlayzing works depicting war trauma were classified in a way that expresses human fear, it could be largely divided into a way that expresses human cruelty and fear, human anxiety and unconsciousness, and daeth. 2) As a result of analyzing the work depicting the war trauma at the content level of the embodiment of brutality and fear, they experienced war firsthand, reconstructed it on the spot based on their experiences, or recalled memories after a certain point to embody brutality and fear. These artists intended to induce reflection, criticism, and indirect experiences of war trauma to viewers according to their respective expressions. 3) As a result of analyzing the work depicting the war trauma at the content level related to anxiety and unconsciousness, they expressed the unconsciousness and emptiness of war trauma by directly expressing the death caused by the war trauma by leaving scary red blood marks on the completed work and the meaninglessness of the war situation through ambiguity. The final results analyzed through this study can be presented as follows. Writers played a role in reflecting on the forgotten memories by stimulating humanity’s collective unconsciousness of war horrors, fears, and anxiety, reflecting on the past, and conveying what attitude we should maintain.
