Recently, a conflict broke, once again, between South Korea and Japan, traced back to the long standing historical dispute over treatment of Koreans during the Japanese colonial rule. This dispute bothers on history and national pride, but this time overflowed to trade and security issues. The national media in South East Asia captured these events as they unfolded from their national perspectives, which has wider implication for their immediate and wider audience around the world. This study aims at investigating media framing of this recent conflict in the light of operational context and national orientation of the media organizations. In this study, two media contexts are considered: first, media in the primary context (the feuding countries), Korea and Japan, and second, media in the secondary context (observant countries), China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. The study aims at investigating how media in these countries framed the issue in their reporting and OP-ED analysis (where it obtains). Towards this end, this study employs content analysis of newspaper contents; news and OP-ED/analysis, to determine framing of news reports and OP-EDs on this conflict in selected English language news media organizations in South East Asia countries. Framing theory is utilized as the critical model towards understanding the issue under investigation.
