The aim of this study is to explore the principles and directions of development for the establishment of the ”Reading and Writing” component of the revised 2022 Korean language curriculum. The development of the "Reading and Writing" subject is guided by the following principles: First, based on content elements relevant to the functions and strategies of reading and writing, 1) common functions and strategies of reading and writing, 2) functions and strategies of reading, and 3) functions and strategies of writing were developed. Second, based on content elements relevant to the integrated context of reading and writing, 1) writing for reading, 2) reading for writing, 3) reading and writing for learning purposes, and 4) media-based reading and writing were formulated. In the preparation of the 2015 revised curriculum and the writing curriculum, certain changes were made. Achievement standards related to attitude were integrated, argumentation was specified, and friendship was removed. Furthermore, specific attention was given to the level of achievement standards while developing the following aspects: Writing for reading, reading for writing, presentation of topic-integrated reading and material-integrated writing to enhance academic literacy, and media-based integration of reading and writing.
