This paper is to analyze anti-imperialism and ecologism in experimental writing of 3,000 Years Among the Microbes. Mark Twain revealed his anti-imperial ideology and ecological vision by attempting experimental writing in this novel which is known for an unfinished SF novel. Twain uses a variety of SF literary devices such as time travel, space manipulation, transformation, and metamorphosis. Especially, Twain shows experimental writing techniques by using an original author’s, Huck’s own long explanatory notes, dashes, and symbols like metafiction writing styles to connect his anti-imperial and ecological perspectives along with narrative strategy of humors and satires. Ultimately, Twain emphasizes the reawakening against imperialism or injustice which are still practiced at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. In this novel, Twain criticizes hierarchical social class systems that still remains in American society at the time. He also reveals that the microbial world is akin to the human world in the aspect of its structure because microbes and human beings share a lot of the similar natural instincts. Therefore, Mark twain satires strongly and scoffs at the imperial and unequal realities of American society in which he lives.
