Report Errors
The Yoon Suk Yeol government that seized power in 2022 was very peculiar in its labour control strategy. This study tries to answer the next three questions. First, what are the similarities and differences between it and the previous governments? Second, what is the characteristics of Yoon government policy and how can we explain it? Three, how can we explain the meaning of the change of Yoon’s labour control strategy in terms of labour regime theory. Firstly, this paper concludes that it maintain the neoliberal strategy of the previous governments. It tends to control labour with labour flexibility policy and ‘rule by law’ principle. And many new tools which Yoon government adapted to control labour, were the longstanding requests of the Chaebol, the monopoly capital in Korea. The Chaebol wanted to escape the crisis of its capital accumulation with the fundamental change of labour politics. But the future of Yoon’s strategy would be gloomy due to the structural constraints of labour regime and class power relations.
