Purpose – The purpose of this study is to discuss the changing dynamics in the global economy, particularly concerning the status of the US Dollar as the dominant reserve currency and the emergence of de-dollarization trends. It highlights the factors contributing to the weakening of the US Dollar"s position, such as geopolitical conflicts, economic crises, and initiatives like China"s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The content also emphasizes the growing internationalization of the Chinese Yuan (Renminbi, RMB) and its potential to challenge the US Dollar"s dominance and its effects on Korea’s International Trade
Design/Methodology -Scholarly approach on this topic through literature related to China, Russia, BRICS and Korea, as well as international organizations such as the IMF, several media sources.
Findings - Geopolitical conflicts between US and China and the shifting global economic order necessitate significant reforms in the international monetary system. These give challenges to Korea and needs to reevaluate its currency, foreign exchange, and diplomatic policies while observing the direction of the RMB"s internationalization.
Originality/value –This study suggests countermeasures and suitable approaches for Korea"s response within the evolving multipolar economic order, taking into account the changing international environment and the implications of the RMB"s internationalization and developments in other regions like ASEAN and BRIC and other countries.
