This study aims to explore the proposition trends of the social news section in the HSK Level 6 examination from 2010 to 2018, based on the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education. By examining the authentic HSK Level 6 test questions from 2010 to 2018, the social news topics covered in the listening, reading, and writing sections were classified and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, in conjunction with HSK Syllabus and Grading Standards. The study investigates the proposition trends of social news topics in the HSK Level 6 examination since 2010. The findings reveal a wide range of topics covered, an overall increase in the number of questions, and a broader distribution of question types. All topics belong to the social life category within the social news domain, with social issues embedded within social life topics, and an increasing focus on internet-related topics. However, there are also topics that are not representative. It was also observed that 51% of the language materials selected contained new information while considering timeliness, and there was no presence of sensitive, biased, or obscure content based on the Grading Standards. Overall, the language difficulty level of the materials was appropriate. This research hopes to provide valuable insights and references for the reform and adjustment of the social news section in the HSK Level 6.
