This article focused on the way the language of perception and criticism of Yoon Dong-ju was constructed and operated, centering since the 1970s. In the 1970s, various research methodologies for Yoon Dong-ju’s literature were sought from the so-called resistance discussion, and as Yoon Dong-ju’s readers expanded, Yoon Dong-ju’s perception spread by various literary subjects. Three characteristic phenomena were included in the concept of Yoon Dong-ju’s discourse, and the following conclusions could be derived as a result of analyzing each phenomenon.
First, the history of resistance discussions and follow-up discussions triggered in the 1970s can be summarized as a journey to recover the question of “Is Yoon Dong-ju a resistance poet?” to the question of “Who is the poet Yoon Dong-ju?” Through this, it was confirmed that the discussion during resistance not only has the character of one historical discourse but also is a principle that forms another discourse. One long journey from the discussion of resistance has allowed us to ask what questions we must inherently recover from the poet.
Second, Yoon Dong-ju’s reader was subdivided into three groups that had partially shared identities with Yoon Dong-ju. This article analyzed the perception towards Yoon Dong-ju among college students, poets, and Koreans in Japan who read Yoon Dong-ju based on cases. The fact that Yoon Dong-ju’s perception was not formed uniformly even within the same group was seen as a basis for revealing the complex and multi-layered context and interpretation of Yoon Dong-ju’s literature, as well as the diversity of the individual unit of the literary subject who read Yoon Dong-ju.
Third, it was noted that the Yoon Dong-ju discourse formed in the 1970s partially took the form of a shared discourse with Jeong Ji-yong, and the process of forming a shared discourse was examined, focusing on Kim Yoon-sik’s Yoon Dong-ju theory in the 1970s. Through this, it was confirmed that such a shared discourse can be a key principle that restores the position of the invisible subject and further assists the understanding of each poetry world.
Through the above discussion, it was confirmed that the Yoon Dong-ju discourse formed at the level of author, reader, and text from the 1970s influenced later Yoon Dong-ju"s perception and literary history research methodology.
