Living in a nursing home would be a helpful option for older adults to fulfill their needs for social interaction and a sense of belonging. The purpose of this research is to investigate interior design features and activity programs in the nursing home to improve the elderly’s well-being and social engagement. As a methodology, a case study of three nursing homes by the Green House Project in the United States was conducted. Based on previous research, sixteen features in total are used for the assessment. The result shows that all the cases have achieved most of the features needed to encourage social interaction. However, improvement in some aspects is still needed, namely the use of grab bars, direct access to common area, visual access to bathroom from common area, and implementation of natural sensory elements. The social interaction between residents in the facility can results in the improvement of physical and mental health, as well as sense of a purpose and belonging, thus enhancing the well-being of the occupants. Therefore, these results can act as strategies and guidelines to design nursing homes in the future.
