This article is a comparative study of two beings with similar origins, Korea"s Dokkaebi and China"s JingGuai(精怪). Dokkaebi and JingGuai examined in this paper are beings derived from Object. The objects that became their origin are not new and good, but mostly "old, useless, and destroyed" objects that people have discarded after using them. The characteristics of these objects explain the properties of Dokkaebi and JingGuai. They acquired supernatural abilities and transformed into humans, appearing in everyday life, but were feared and not welcomed. They caused people to suffer from mental and physical diseases, and caused disasters that destroyed the foundation of people"s lives by causing fires. In ancient societies, disease and fire were disasters that endangered individuals and communities.
Dokkaebi and JingGuai originate from objects, but there are also differences. JingGuai is just an old and useless object changed, but Dokkaebi has one condition added. It has the characteristic of combining old things with blood, especially with menstrual blood. Combined with menstrual blood, which has lost productivity, further strengthens the negative properties of Dokkaebi. Dokkaebi originated from objects becomes a fearsome entity that causes mental and physical problems, and further causes people to die. When their identities were discovered, they became targets for extermination and extinction. They were incinerated, disembodied, or removed in religious ways. By destroying those who brought fear, misfortune and disaster, people tried to regain their daily lives.
