Now days, discipline and field are closing up to each other, which indicates that traditional discipline criteria have been out of date. To get out of the debate over whether event economics and management is a discipline or a field , we should transcend traditional discipline criteria and the stance of specific disciplines. Based on reviewing relevant literature and discipline criteria, this paper discriminated the validity of event economics and management as a discipline, and argued that eventology is a rising interdiscipline but it is still in the stage of prescience. In order to analyze the structure of knowledge, we established Event Economics and Management Book of Knowledge, which is more in line with the reality of Chinese event industry development and the basic condition of event studies. Finally, in reference to the three-level functional structure in generic system theory, the paper put forward a framework of disciplinary system with strong explanatory power.
