This study was performed to establish the practical principles of food ethics by using the reflective equilibrium approach. The background theories included a sustainable living of human race, coexistence of every living-being and respect for life, preservation of nature(environment), distributive justice without deception or fakes, moderation and balance neither overs nor shorts, assurance of safety, and the prior consideration of consumer. The six deductive principles were assessed based on the background theories. There were mismatches between the four principles(ethical egoism, utilitarianism, natural law, and respect for persons) and the background theories, because of the absence of respect for life of the other living-beings. The two principles(justice and respect for life) proved appropriate ones, since they matched to the background theories. A few principles derived from the inductive approaches were also assessed based on the background theories. Food ethics paradigm cases could be categorized into a contempt of life, injustice and fakes, destruction of environment, disregard of safety, unbalanced intake, and the disregard of consumer. The core principles were established by matching up each paradigm case with each relevant background theory. The core principles included a respect for life, justice, environmental preservation, priority of safety, dynamic equilibrium, and the priority of consumer.
