After the collapse of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia was eliminated from the domestic defense industry and the international arms market. However, since 1993, it has revived as a defense industry powerhouse in the international arms market through government-led policy of fostering and developing the defense industry and promoting Russian-style Foreign Military and Technological Cooperation. In addition, it is pursuing a new policy change in the defense industry, such as the privatization of Russia's huge military-industrial complex and job creation linked to civil affairs. realizing the economy. This would be evidence that Russia is expanding from pursuing political and ideological interests through free arms transfers and low-cost defense exports in the past to economic interests. Meanwhile, Military Technological Cooperation between Russia and Central Asian countries has recently been expanding. This may be because Russia's approach to Central Asia, a traditional hegemonic power in Central Asia, and the interests of Central Asian countries' cooperation in the defense industry with Russia coincided. Now, the Republic of Korea is celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Central Asian countries, including Russia. Nevertheless, the pace of development of cooperative relations in the defense industry is slowing compared to other cooperative fields. Therefore, analyzing Russia's defense industry and Military Technology Cooperation cases with Central Asian countries will provide a good starting point for us to develop cooperative relationships in the defense industry with these countries in the future. This study begins with this awareness of the problem. This study will be developed as follows: First, it will be studied how Russia fostered and developed the defense industry after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Second, it will be analyzed of Cases of successful Military Technical Cooperation between Russia and Central Asian countries. Third, It will be analyzed what interests Russia, including Central Asia, ultimately pursues through exports of defense industries.
