The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of autistic disorders in films. To this end, we selected and watched three films that portrayed autistic disorders and transcribed the dialogue and scenes according to the research subjects in the analysis papers. First, we looked at how the films portrayed autistic disorders positively and negatively. Second, we looked at the positive and negative attitudes of characters in these films toward autistic disorders. To ensure the reliability of the study, we enlisted two special education experts; they consulted on the results of the analysis. The findings were as follows: The films’ positive portrayal of autistic disorders appeared in four categories: possession of superior ability, possession of willpower, possibility of self-reliance, and improvement of social behaviors. The films’ negative portrayal of autistic disorders appeared in three categories: social separation, difficulties in everyday life, and actions that harm others. There were eight positive attitudes of characters in the films toward autistic disorders: love, understanding, respect, equality, trust, cooperation, warmth, and protection. There were seven negative attitudes of characters in the films toward autistic disorders: age inappropriate treatment, anxiety, obsession, evasion, derision, contempt, and prejudice.
