The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of emotional labor of female toll booth workers on exhaustion and the mediating effect of job stress and to search for policy suggestions and social welfare intervention plans. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted from May 2, 2016 to May 27, for four weeks. The main results of this study are as follows: first, emotional labor had a meaningful impact on emotional depletion and depersonalization among the sub-factors of exhaustion, and did not have a significant effect on lowered sense of accomplishment. Second, the result of verifying the mediating effect of job stress in the relationship of emotional labor, emotional depletion, and depersonalization showed complete mediating effect. In other words, emotional labor can be a factor of emotional exhaustion and impersonalization. Therefore, we have created a work manual that would help female toll　booth workers cope with unexpected situations, and we recommend the introduction of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to mitigate emotional labor and to prevent burnout, and job stress on behalf of female toll booth workers.
