The purpose of this study is to examine the descriptions of the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War in the currently used Japanese middle school history textbooks, and to understand the perception of modern Korea-Japan relations through them. Although these descriptions seem to have no problem on the surface, they ascribed the cause of the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War to Ching and Russia. And it reveals a tendency to reduce and exclude events that occurred during the development of the two wars. As a result, they have obscured the Japanese imperial intentions of Japan at the time to forcibly expand its power over Joseon through force. If Japanese middle school students learn through the above description, there is a problem that Japan is likely to recognize the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War from a distorted or biased perspective as Japan naturally expands its power to Joseon and the continent.
