This paper aims to enhance an understanding of discourse analysis in linguistics and to explore a future direction by looking back upon the outcomes of discourse analysis researches reflectively, focusing on the linguistics-related papers in academic journals published from 2000 to 2016. For achieving this purpose, Chapter 2 defines the scope of discourse analysis researches and introduces the analysis procedure briefly, and Chapter 3 introduces the outcomes of researches by classifying the relevant papers into ‘research data’, ‘research methods’ and ‘research topics’. Lastly, Chapter 4 presents a discussion and a conclusion and discusses future research tasks. The discussion finding showed that the existing discourse analysis researches in linguistics have produced meaningful outcomes from various angles, in relation to research methods and research topics. It is considered that discourse analysis research needs to center on linguistics in future. It is anticipated that the application of methodologies, including grammar, semantics, pragmatics and text linguistics would provide ‘rigorousness’ not to depend on individual researchers for discourse analysis and ‘originality’ to differentiate from surrounding fields of study. Moreover, it would be possible to visualize power and ideology hidden in discourse and provide a new critical awakening to readers.
