This paper analyzes Billy-Ray Belcourt’s text focusing on the concept of “politics of body”. This concept is borrowed from Michel Foucault as Belcourt’s problematic deeply concerns the body on/in which racial and sexual discrimination is engraved. For Belcourt race and gender issue is not the conceptual but physical one which affects the living bodies. Foucault’s ‘politics of body’ exactly refers to the ways in which discourse-power is exercised on the living bodies. Belcourt defies any kind of categorization or appropriation of the indigeneity and the queer by white and hetero-sexual discourses. His poetic strategy is to deconstruct the fixed body of the indigenous and queer by the white-straight discourses. He continuously unbodies the body. But this doesn’t mean the extinction of the body. His deconstruction of the body is to make it something else evading and denying the normative gaze of the white. He is on the endless line of flight like a nomadic subject. His text is an embodied intersectional narratives of the indigeneity and the queer armed with postmodern, postcolonial, queer and post-structuralist paradigms and strategies.
