This study set out to investigate the life and Chinese poems of Se-am Ha Jeong-Woon, a descendent of the Jinyang Ha Songjeong family in the Sagok village of Jinju as part of research on traditional villages in the Gyeongnam region. As one of intellectuals out of office in the Sacheon area of Gyeongnam during the Korean Empire, he earned respect from local residents by fulfilling his duties and roles as an intellectual out of office in a remote area during the turbulent times home and abroad. As his pen name indicates, he regulated himself by cleaning his mind and staying away from selfish interests and desires. Most of all, he was devoted to the study of keeping and preserving his nature bestowed from the Heaven. His way of life is prominent in his Chinese poems, many of which are about his daily life. His way of life based on self-satisfaction is especially found in his poems about flowers and trees. He also made local people proud of their area by promoting the study and spirit of Gu-am Lee Jeong, one of remarkable sages in the area, and checked local people's passion for the local academic tradition by encouraging young people to study. Historically, the descendents of Jinyang Ha Song-Jeong family mainly lived in Jinju generation after generation. Jinju was the academic and cultural center of the Gangwoo region and produced many outstanding individuals. Compared to them, Ha Jeong-woon led a monotonous life in some aspects. The collection of his works is not big enough to figure out. Sacheon was, however, a remote country village adjacent to the sea and frequently invaded by the Japanese raiders in history instead of a downtown area with advanced civilization. Representing Sacheon as an intellectual, Ha led its local study and culture. Now there is a need to invest research interest and capability in local figures that sustained the times firmly but not in a flashy way. Ha Jeong-woon was an intellectual out of office that revealed such presence in the local history.
