The purpose of this study is to present the movie animation as a teaching material of English listening activities. The application of movie animation, The Garden of Eden, is used toward the teaching listening exercises.
Three stages of listening activities are practiced based on the strategies of metacognitive, cognitive, and socio-affective strategies. First, for prelistening stage, ‘watching without sound’ is for background knowledge.
Through ‘guessing important word or phrases,’ students guess particular words or phrases. ‘Reading texts before listening,’ is to guess next contents.
Through ‘pronunciation practice,’ teachers evaluate students’ responses.
‘Class discussion’ is conducted by singing songs from the animation.
Second, for while-listening stage, ‘text completion or gap-filling exercise’ is to teach essential words. ‘Predicting meaning’ is concerned with predicting the suitable words. Third, for post-listening stage, ‘pair or role play’ is practiced by reading or speaking the containing important phrases.
‘Writing activity’ is a pair or a group work to create sentences. ‘Student’s presentation’ is a summary of role plays for writing activities. For ‘student response,’ teachers can check students’ listening. !is study concludes that the teaching animation scripts on Bible will motivate students’ attention and contribute to listening strategies in the classroom.
