A Study on the Impact of Background Music on the Concentration and Performance of Students Bei Chen ＆ Kwangcheol Kim
Abstract: This study is to review whether a background music has a meaningful impact on the improvement of students’ concentration. It utilizes a way to comparatively examine and analyze research results on the relation between music and concentration. It explores what kind of relation can be drawn between students’ concentration like writing abilities, memory retention, or cognitive abilities and different background musics manipulated by difference of instrument, mode, or lyric. In conclusion, it suggests that background music does not have direct impacts on students’ concentration like memory retention or cognitive abilities. However, background music itself should be regarded as stimuli to human brain, which amounts to positively influence human emotion, so students can take advantage of background music to maintain their positive emotion.
