Historically, the spread of Capitalism led to urbanization and civilization based on developments in industry and manufacturing, regarding this, the modern poets of Japan have shown both positive and negative views. However, in general, the negative view of urban civilization persecuting humanity and destroying sentiments stands out. Hagiwara Sakutaro, who was among the first to pay attention to civilization and cities, had light on the relationship between an urbanized city, the lives of humans, and the everyday. In the early days, he revealed his admiration for cities, especially Tokyo, but as time went on, he criticized indiscriminate urbanization. On the other hand, most of the Avant-Garde poets who appeared at the end of the Taisho Period devoted themselves to dry language expressions. As a result, they can not deny the rhetorical limitations of the transformational form and three-dimensional vocabulary they pursued in their poetry, whether it was praise or criticism of civilization. In this regard, Ono Tozaburo and Okamoto Jun, although starting their careers as Avant-Garde poets, introduced expressions of nature and human thoughts missing from Avant-Garde poetry to harshly criticize the faults of indiscriminate and unreasonable urbanization, and their values as realistic Ideological and Satirical Poetry with the lyricism are recognized.
