Japan’s economic security policy can be understood as its response to international structural change embedded in the rise of China on the world stage. It has been hailed as the core method for balancing this rise. However, Japan’s economic security policy has also been considered a tool for its growth strategy. In the economic policy arena, there has been no consensus on the governmental intervention in the domestic industrial revitalization embedded in Japan’s current economic security policy. The last three Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Cabinets ? the second one of Abe, and those of Suga and Kishida ? differed in the emphasis of their economic policies. The current Japanese economic security policy has been perfectly tailored to fit the second Abe Cabinet’s economic policy orientations centering on industrial policies. However, the Suga and Kishida Cabinets seemed unable to realign their economic security policy with their economic policy orientations. This was primarily because of political weakness or unclear policy orientation.
