This study aims to describe the current status of overseas Korean language education and also to draw policy implications for the improvement of Korean language policies. The survey was conducted to understand the factors hindering Korean education as well as ways to promote it. The main findings are summarized as follows. Both ‘curriculum/textbook and administration’ among the four survey categories were mainly pointed out as the impediments. In particular, sub-factors such as ‘the development of customized educational materials and the treatment of teachers’ were pointed out as major obstacles. And as a way to promote overseas Korean language education, ‘improvement of administration’ was pointed out as the most urgent task, followed by the improvement of educational facilities and enhancement of curriculum and teaching materials. Considering these results, the Korean government should resolve such administrative issues as ‘lack of personnel and institutions.’ It also should improve the work environment of Korean teachers and train overseas ones to enhance the quality of overseas Korean language education.
