This study examines Yoko Tawada"s novel "The Emissary" from the perspective of the Anthropocene, which refers to the geological era in which human activities have brought about significant changes in the Earth"s natural environment from the time of the Holocene, which corresponds to the present world. In particular, the Anthropocene accelerated after World War II, and a sense of crisis emerged that many species of living organisms will become extinct if the situation continues. "The Emissary" depicts the issue of climate change, which is an important topic in the discourse of the Anthropocene. Since radioactivity is a representative substance of the Anthropocene, "The Emissary," which deals with the Great East Japan Earthquake and the problem of radioactive contamination, is associated with this era. In addition, the problems of ecosystem disturbance, soil and sea pollution, biological extinction, and changes in the human body are also highlighted, reflecting the signs of the Anthropocene. The work breaks away from anthropocentric thinking through reflections on coexistence with animals and ways of life and demonstrates ecological literacy. Additionally, it highlights the sense of solidarity between those who are trying to overcome this crisis, and hints at the fact that as long as efforts are made, the future will not be so bleak.
