As part of the urban space, the inner street of the commercial complex is perceived as an outer street. Based on the fact that a walkable environment improves the sustainability of the city, the interior of the commercial complex must also be planned with walkability in mind. Pedestrian walkways in underground spaces are structurally closed. Therefore, to overcome the structural constraint, it is necessary to provide basic comfort while providing visually interesting elements. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively measure the complexity and diversity of storefronts in underground spaces through a visual complexity analysis using the concept of entropy, and to provide the basis for the development of storefronts based on findings in the future. The case study, conducted in the indoor streets of Starfield COEX Mall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, measures the visual complexity of
storefronts facing pedestrian walkways. Visual complexity was studied by dividing it into fixed and variable elements. The visual complexity of the target site had an average value of 3.29, and it was found that the complexity of the façade of the whole location was more influenced by the variable element. The complexity of the individual storefronts was higher the closer they were to the outer entrance of the target site.
