Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine risk assessment techniques for preventing and reducing industrial accidents. A reclassification approach to the current assessment methodology is often conducted by using quality function deployment (QFD).

Background: In much literature, applications of risk assessment may provide significant contributions to reducing occupational accidents. Diverse risk assessment methods can detect various risk factors due to the characteristics of a workplace. It can be difficult to find a proper risk assessment method fitting to a particular industry.

Method: In order to perform a comprehensive literature review, existing risk assessment methods and applications were broadly searched and inspected. All risk assessment methods checked in the study are classified by three aspects, such as worker-based, process-based, and worker and process-based methods.

Results: A quality function deployment (QFD) method is utilized to consider both risk assessment methods and their associated important categories (i.e., manageability, effectiveness, versatility, convenience, and work operability) simultaneously for risk reductions.

Conclusion: This study classified many existing risk assessment methods based on the level of difficulty and properly applicable industry types. Occupational safety personnel could select and apply a well-fitting risk assessment tool to their industry environment referring to the study.

Application: This literature review results in providing a useful guide for companies, safety managers, and industrial workers in order to evaluate potential risks and prevent occupational accidents.
