The purpose of this study is to identify the types of acculturation based on Berry"s acculturation model for North Korean refugees, and to interview the North Korean refugees" impressions of the literary work “Rodong Sinmun” in depth. It consists of examining this aspect in terms of psychological adaptation at the individual level. In particular, in order to induce in-depth thoughts and emotions while minimizing the psychological pain and rejection caused by trauma, this study attempted to reflectively draw on the past experiences of North Korean refugees through literary works. According to the results of the study, all the participants showed the acculturation type of "fairy tale", and conversely, they showed significant psychological maladjustment patterns. This is interpreted as the result of negative psychology because it unilaterally discarded the identity of the original culture and tried to be absorbed into the culture of the new mainstream society. Therefore, it is necessary to reconsider the social atmosphere emphasizing unilateral South Koreanization, and the biased perception of North Korean refugees by South Koreans in that cultural adaptation as well as material adaptation remains a problem to be resolved. Accordingly, based on the literary work “Rodong Sinmun”, we intend to continue a more diverse discussion on both North Korean refugees and Koreans as a follow-up study.
