There is hardly a significant difference between politics and religion, when viewed from the Aristotelian political point, in that they both emphasise morality, selflessness and public good. However, despite being a deeply "religious" society, there is a general conception of politics in Nigeria as a "a dirty game". How and why should any game, let alone politics, be conceived as dirty? How has money, a factor with massive effects in every human activity, contributed to this? This paper analyses the intersections between morality and politics, taking into account the positions of dominant belief systems and the rising money culture in Nigeria"s Fourth Republic. Data are drawn from secondary materials for the paper"s conceptual and theoretical contents. This is complimented by primary data generated from events analyses by the author and contents analyses of selected documents including political finance laws and reports from special bodies such as the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC). The prebendalist socio-economic and political perspective is deployed for the paper"s analytic frame.
