The pidgin of indigenous languages and Chinese in Taiwan indigenous literature manifests the subjectivity of the indigenous people and discloses the dimension of cultural translation. In recent years, the translation and dissemination of Taiwan indigenous literature has been highlighted. Gwennaël Gaffric analyzes that Chen Ruo-xi’s and Chen Ji-ying’s works in the 1980s are among the Taiwan literary works first translated and published in France. In the 1990s, only works of four Taiwan writers were translated in France: Li Ang, Qi Deng Sheng, Bai Xian-yong and Wang Wen-xing. Since 2000, Taiwan literary works translated into French have been diversified. Works by Taiwan indigenous writers Taubas Tamapima, Walis Nokan, Syaman Rapongan, Liglav A-wu, Husluman Vava, and others begin to be translated and disseminated in France. Taiwan literature emerges because of Chinese literature studies in France whereas Taiwan indigenous literature rises in France with the development of Taiwan literature. This paper examines the historical context of Taiwan indigenous literature’s translation into French for the purpose of illustrating the translation and dissemination of Taiwan indigenous literature in France.
