It is acknowledged that noda is readily used in contexts characterized by ‘fixedness’, but does not itself mark ‘fixedness". Therefore, this study will examines the function of noda in relation to nominal sentences.
Noda indicates that the focused element associated with the function of a noun sentence indicates modality. For a speaker to convey the content of speech effectively, focusing on what is intended to be shared is more appropriate. Two kinds of elements can be the target of this focus: elements within the sentence, which mainly include "doko", "nani", and "nande", and diverse extrasentential elements, such as “assessment, reason, conclusion, embodiment, fact, discovery, re-recognition.”
Noda is used when focusing on and presenting a specific situation to make the speaker’s message more appealing. To ensure that listeners better understand what the speaker is saying, it is necessary to focus on the content. Consequently, noda can be considered a marker that focuses on what is said to articulate the speaker’s thoughts and opinions effectively.
