Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the factor about the transient twinkle perception to explore of human vision. Background: The TTP is a phenomenon human perceive a twinkle when a refresh rate of flickering is changed transiently. Even it should be considered as a factor when a quality of video in display is checked, the research was not developed as well. Method: A stimulus was continuous flickering at 1440 Hz and was changed by a flickering image with a specific contrast and specific refresh rate. At the transient change, twinkle will be perceived. First, an effect of refresh rate was examined with a fixed size, visual degree 3’. In a darkroom, participants were asked about a twinkle is brighter or darker: 2AFC, Luminance Discrimination. A contrast threshold was estimated by QUEST method within different refresh rate. Second, an effect of size was investigated with a fixed refresh rate. The contrast thresholds were tested with different size levels in two different ways: 2AFC as same as first, and 2IFC, which stimulus was twinkle, Flicker Detection. Results: A variance of refresh rate was decreased, a refresh rate of flickering was increased, a contrast threshold was increased linearly. The effect of the size was different as two estimations. In a 2IFC, the bigger size makes a contrast threshold decreased, however in a 2AFC, the bigger size makes a contrast threshold increased. There is a significant interaction effect between size and TTP. Conclusion: TTP can provide evidence of a spatiotemporal integration of human vision. This result can provide a data of quantitative analysis about TTP. Application: The display should be considered to prevent a TTP with a specific refresh rate and size. Also, TTP can be an item of checklist of qualifying a video of a display.
