Air chambers in railway tunnels can prove to be beneficial in reducing the peak over pressure and steepness during the propagation process. The effectiveness of the air chambers depends on the geometrical parameters and its resistance to inertance ratio. During compression wave propagation, the openings provided behave either as a Helmholtz resonator or a damped air chamber system.
