Purpose: This is a descriptive study to investigate bioterrorism preparedness and to identify its related factors and influencing factors of military nursing officers in armed forces hospital. Methods: Data was collected from 178 nursing officers who worked in armed forces hospitals, South Korea. Data collection was conducted from August 5 to 30, 2014 using a self-reported questionnaire. Data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There were significant differences in the bioterrorism preparedness by military rank, work unit, service pattern and military experience. A statistically significant correlation was found between bioterrorism preparedness and measured variables. The predictive factors of bioterrorism preparedness were participation of preparedness education(β=.344) and barriers of education(β=-.221). Conclusion: These results indicate that to improve the bioterrorism preparedness status of nursing officers, additionally periodic and systematic bioterrorism preparedness training is necessary after the commission. And advanced degree curriculum, which specialized in bioterrorism for the field nurses, is necessary to nurture professionals. Also, development of periodical and systematic curriculum program and a manpower supply and demand, administrative and financial support is needed in the organizational level to establishment of effective military disaster emergency medical system.
