As pansori was registered as a UNESCO world intangible cultural inheritage in 2003, interest in Korean traditional classical music and traditional culture and art has been on the sharp increase. In commemoration of Dongli Jae-hyo Shin, who made great achievements in pansori, Dongli Gugakdang was established in Gochang, North Jeolla Province in 1990 and was recently remodeled because more than 20 years have passed since its establishment. In remodeling a pansori performance hall, however, it is necessary to focus more on improvement in acoustic performance to meet the requirements of the hall while it is also important to improve the aged facility. From this point of view, this study aimed to assess the variation in acoustic performance of Dongli Gugakdang through field test before and after the remodeling and to determine the changes in subjective responses to the remodeling through auralization test. After remodeling, there were significant changes in the volume, internal finishing materials, and room constant of the hall, whereas no significant change was found in acoustic performance and subjective responses felt by the audience and it has secured acoustic performance enough to serve as a pansori performance hall. This study is expected to be helpful in establishing a similar Korean traditional classical music performance hall.
