Freud defines the obsessive repetition of trauma as a late act in which someone who has not prepared to lose and is late preparation for the loss of the past. In this regards, contemporary sculptors, including trauma based on individual experiences, try to see how the repetition of art works to overcome loss and process of sublimation In order to embrace the concept of sublimation through the repetitive formative language of sculpture, the trauma is concentrated not on the abnormal psychological symptom of the individual but on how to represent the repressed emotion. In the contemporary sculpture, when trauma is used as a psychological mechanism of art, it is concentrated more on repetitive elements such as repetitive representation and repetitive acts. Therefore, this study will focus on the work in which the repetitive formative language is prominent among the works of the preceding artist. The trauma is eventually overcome by restoring the wounded self through reconstruction of memory and establishing and healing one self. After postmodernism, the most important thing in contemporary art is one self and one’s identity, and it can be seen that art is focused on individuals who are more vulnerable and wounded by modern society, which is mechanized and consumed. In this regards, The function of contemporary art could be important to overcome trauma of oneself.
