This article is a study of "an absentee landowner" by Takiji Kobayashi. Takiji's "an absentee landowner" was published in the November 1929 by "Chuou-kouron". He covered the dispute of Isono farm in Hokkaido and wrote "absentee landowner". The dispute at Isono farm was the first dispute in which farmers and workers solidarized in Japan. In the work, the situation of the dispute at Isono farm is describd realistically. In this paper, I examined context in publish of "an absentee landowner". And I investigated specifically the dispute at Isono farm, and examined the interrelationship between this dispute and "an absentee landowner". In "an absentee landowner" the peasant farmers fight a squire with workers, starting from the issue of reduction of farm subsidies, and finally winning the battle. In this work, the relationship between the landlord and the tenant changes from a private dominance of parents and children to a class system of public relations. Japanese capitalism based on feudal landlord and the tenant system, supported by the farmer's delayed consciousness, tries to strengthen the military nationalist system. Takiji has exposed the trends of the ruling system sharply and mentioned the problem of 'landowner and capitalist', 'rural and urban' in "an absentee landowner". It is a new attempt that has not been in peasant literature until now. The significance of Takiji's "an absentee landowner" is here.
