Consideration for ‘Conversion Design’, which is convert a space with preserving form and structure in order to maximize usage of existing space due to the fact of deterioration in function rather than deterioration in physical usage, has been increasing and there are a number of examples affected it. The objective of this study is to explore ‘Conversion Design’ among diverse renovation techniques. As prerequisite the exploration, grasping of basic principal for it and analyzing precedents with similarity are needed. Then outdoor theater, which used to be an athletic field (stadium), is renovated based on architectural factors, which are from similarity and differentiation between stadium and auditorium or theater, as a conversion design exploration. This thesis examines two formations that one is proscenium and the other is arena, at the site of the Chuseong Stadium, then study will be used to suggest a new solution for maximizing its value and usage due to the way of ‘Conversion Design’ as a fundamental design method.
